Benbo Trekker Mk 3 Further Details

  • Benbo Trekker Mk 3 Review

The tubular aluminium construction of the legs offers the best possible combination of weight and rigidity. Each leg can be independently positioned, made possible by the tripods unique, highly flexible main joint, which enables each leg to swing through a complete 360 degrees (see picture). The centre column can also be swung through 360 degrees, producing a combination that allows the camera to be positioned at almost any point.

Whether used in the standard configuration with a vertical centre column, down at ground level with legs splayed out, or with one of the legs pointing upward finding support from a tree or wall, Benbo tripods can always be relied upon to give complete stability.

All models are constructed from drawn tubing with no internal seams, with the lower tubing having sealed feet, allowing the tripod to be stood in water, mud or snow up to the leg joint.

Comments about Benbo Trekker Mk 3:

This was recommended to me and i was warned about the legs. So i took a chance and bought it because i wanted a versatile tripod for outdoor nature close up shots, backgrounds and landscapes. The worse thing about it is the legs, i describe them as being like bagpipes, or an octopus, they do not go into position easily, its always a battle, if they are too wide they slip because you cant tighten the handle, the centre column if extended makes the whole thing unstable. I use the tripod because i dont have any other choice, i have had it for 2 years, its best use is in my very small studio, the legs seem more steady when they are less wide apart but i dont trust it, cant wait to get a proper tripod

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Benbo Trekker Mk 3:

I've just brought my Benbo Trekker out after a period of storage to see if I could work the thing better than in the past. It is one of the most infuriating tripods ever designed. Okay so it can be angled in many diverse ways but boy does it take some fathoming out! On another site somebody described these type of tripods as being equivalent to watching somebody on Blackpool beach trying erect a wooden deckchair on a stormy day. That just about sums it up - I hate the thing and it's now going in a skip!

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Benbo Trekker Mk 3:

I've owned and used this tripod for approximately 3 frustrating years. Designed with ultimate flexability in mind it does enable the legs and centre column almost complete flexability. However, to position the legs they need to be rotated around the mechanism to which they join. This is awkward, takes time and requires space. The centre column can only be rotated in one plane and so the whole tripod has to be rotated to get the tripod head in the desired position. Once this has been achieved, your camera will wobble around on the adjustable column as, although the rest of the tripod is substantial, the adjustable section of the column is made of flexible plastic. This flexible section makes the tripod virtually worthless. Then when you are trying to take your shots the whole tripod will collapse as the locking machanism doesn't tighten enough to hold the legs when they are splayed widely. Recently the flexible main joint around which the legs rotate has seized. Although I could attempt a fix I'm thankfull for an excuse to buy a tripod that works. This tripod has been so bad I'm currently using a [$]home brand tripod with a beanbag balanced on top, which is a vast improvement in flexability and stability!
