The B+W 77mm Clear UV Haze (010) Filter blocks the invisible UV component of light from the sky, which can cause blur and a blue cast. UV Filters are ideal for photography in high altitudes (in the mountains), by the sea and in regions with very clean air. Because the glass is colourless, colour rendition is not altered, aside from the elimination of the unwanted blue cast, and no increase in exposure is required. That makes a UV Filter very suitable as protection of the front element of the taking lens against dust, sand, sea water spray and the like, and it can be kept on the lens at all times.

Comments about B+W 77mm Clear UV Haze (010) Filter:

Not much to say really, except that this filter does what it says on the tin..
I bought it to use on my Canon 100-400 IS L zoom lens. The 100-400 lens is supposed to be very 'sensitive' to filters, with some users reporting problems not only with reduction in IQ, but also in AF performance.
Therefore, to put my mind at rest, I decided to do some testing, both with and without the filter attached. The test was done indoors under artificial light, and I can honestly say that I can tell no difference in sharpness between the 4 images I took with the filter, and the 4 I took with it off (even when the images are heavily cropped). I've also had very sharp results from pictures of flying birds with this filter on, so if there is a slight affect on the AF accuracy, I can't see it personally. Perhaps a cheaper filter would have been problematic, which is why I paid more to get this one afterall.
As a result of these tests I'm happy to say I'll be leaving the filter on most of the time, at least for the time being. I might decide to remove it occasionally though, especially during the summer months when I plan on using the lens for close-ups of butterflys with the possible addition of extension tubes.
